What is a stroke?

A regimen of several therapies called stroke rehabilitation is meant to help you regain abilities you lost as a result of a stroke. Rehabilitation can assist with mobility, speech, strength, and daily living abilities, depending on the areas of your brain that were impaired by the stroke. You may restore your independence and enhance your quality of life with the aid of stroke therapy. According to research, those who take part in a targeted programme for stroke rehabilitation perform better than the majority of those who don’t. Therefore, stroke rehabilitation is advised for everyone who has experienced a stroke.
There are several methods for assisting stroke survivors in their recovery. Overall, though, rehabilitation is focused on precisely targeted and repetitive activities the same thing repeatedly. Your treatment strategy will be determined by the bodily part or categories of abilities that your stroke has affected.

Technology-assisted physical activities

  • A non-invasive method of stimulating the brain is targeted cortical magnetic stimulation. A technician applies magnetic coils to the patient’s scalp during the procedure, and brief electromagnetic pulses pass through the coils and are directed at certain regions of the brain. Although patients hardly notice them, the pulses have been compared to tapping. When pulses enter the brain, they cause electric currents to flow, stimulating neurons. Magnetic fields that are constantly changing produce these electric currents. A brief, intense electric current is sent through the wire coil to initiate this change. This results in the projection of a magnetic field parallel to the electric current.It is a more effective stroke therapy strategy since it offers both single and double pulses. Repetitive pulse delivery reduces cerebral cortical excitability for a longer time.
  • The idea behind hyperbaric oxygen treatment for stroke is that boosting the oxygen flow to the areas of the brain that have been impacted by the condition may reduce brain swelling and shield brain cells, lowering the severity of permanent brain damage and improving results. It has been widely adopted and used by us and has been producing unmatchable results.
  • Robotics – Robotic devices can enable limbs with disabilities to do repetitive actions, which can help the limbs regain strength and function. In order to train their handicapped hand using an exoskeleton robotic hand that is actively guided by their own muscle impulses, an exoskeleton hand robotic training equipment is specifically created for stroke victims. It helps with functional hand opening and closing activities by detecting the stroke patient’s intention using surface electromyography (EMG) signals from the hemiplegic side. 
  • The robotic system consists of a robotic hand module that can be modified to match different finger lengths and an integrated controller. Robotic rehabilitation tools for the lower extremities, such as powered orthoses with computer-controlled motors to facilitate joint mobility, can boost the therapeutic benefit of movement training while perhaps lightening the strain on therapists. Less therapist attention is needed to give the same mechanical therapy when robotics are used. The therapist will simply need to supervise and set up the robotic equipment with the patient strapped in. This may assist the patient learn good walking technique from the start, preventing abnormal gait patterns.
  • One of the main goals of the rehabilitation programme for stroke victims is gait recovery, which is frequently also their top priority. Function recovery following a stroke is a difficult process that involves both spontaneous healing and the results of therapeutic interventions. Due to the disruption of neuronal networks in the motor cortex, their connection with the brainstem and its descending pathways, and the intraspinal locomotor network, abnormal gait patterns are a typical disability after a stroke. This damage causes the muscular weakening, tone alterations, and atypical synergistic movement patterns that are frequently noticed in stroke patients. In traditional gait training, the gait cycle is broken down into its component pieces, the problematic sections are trained and improved, and then they are reintegrated into ambulation to return to a more normal gait cycle.
Few common gait trainings are,
  1. symmetrical weight distribution when standing.
  2. transferring weight between the lower limbs
  3. Swinging and clearing drills on flat, unattractive surfaces
  4. Acceptance of heel strike and limb loading
  5. centre of gravity (COG) support provided by the lower limbs
  6. Use of the lower limbs to propel the COG
  7. Balance of the COG when it switches between limbs that carry weight regulating the toe and knee trajectories to provide proper foot alignment and toe clearance
  • A Controlled Passive Mobiliser is a piece of equipment that a person may use to aid in recuperation after undergoing joint surgery. The purpose of CPM machines is to expand a user’s range of motion. They give joints that a person is unable to freely move bouts of continuous motion. After surgery, people could feel discomfort when trying to move their joints. This can make patients reluctant to move the joint, which might cause stiffness, a decrease of range of motion, and the formation of scar tissue. The results of a this treatment may vary depending on the state of the user and the injured joint. An improved range of motion and pain relief may result from utilising a this machine.
  • Reactive electromyography is a technique used to educate the sensorimotor cortex. Based on bioelectrical signals (EMG) collected from the patient’s muscles, the movement of the patient is active. Patients with clinical weakness benefit the most from it since it allows for greater motor unit recruitment during muscle activation. By automating the therapy, it increases your market and enables the treatment and diagnosis of individuals with severe neurological conditions. One cutting-edge and ground-breaking approach to treating stroke patients for neurorehabilitation is the integration of EMG-driven robotic training into routine therapeutic procedures. Reactive electromyography-enabled rehabilitation robots take an EMG signal from a patient’s muscles and, using that information, aid with a specific movement. When do I start Stroke Rehabilitation?

You have a better chance of recovering lost talents and skills if you start stroke therapy as soon as possible. While you are still in the hospital, stroke rehabilitation frequently begins 24 to 48 hours following the stroke. The first 6 months is the best time for starting rehab treatment.
However, the extent of your stroke and any associated problems will determine how long you require rehabilitation. Some stroke victims make a full recovery in first few weeks. But most stroke victims show some sort of improvement with long-term therapy even after months or even years. As you regain abilities and your requirements alter, your stroke rehabilitation plan will vary as you heal. Gains can be made over time with consistent practice.
